Quilt Fest is returning to Rising Sun, Indiana, April 3-5 with the addition of quilt and textile exhibits hosted by neighboring historic sites. Dearborn County Historical Society, Hillforest Victorian House, Veraestau, Ohio County Historical Society, and Switzerland County Historical Society will each have exhibits of interest to quilt enthusiasts traveling to this area.

Southeastern Indiana Quilt Fest 2009 will be held at the Rising Sun-Ohio County Senior community Center at 510 S. Mulberry Street in Rising Sun. Hours are Friday 10-5, Saturday 10-6 and Sunday noon-4. Daily admission to the quilt show and contest is $5 or visitors may purchase a money saving "Passport" for $10 which will admit them to the quilt show as well as all five historic sites.

Quilt Fest organizers, Ohio County Historical Society, and Sunshine Stitchers are proud to offer classes and lectures by nationally known quilt artists and teachers Nancy Odom, Anne Lullie, and Terry White. Vendors, free quilt technique demonstrations, and a food concession will also be available each day.

Three contests with cash prizes totaling more than $4,000 include quilts in six categories, an art quilt contest and all-media art competition depicting scenes inspired by the craft of the quilt. The deadline for entries is March 1, 2009. Entry fee for each item is $5.

3rd Annual Rising Sun Juried Art Show

Opening reception May 1 6-9pm

The opening reception for the Rising Sun 3rd Annual Juried Art Show will be held on May 1 from 6-9p at the Pendleton Art Center 201 Main Street Rising Sun.

 

One hundred and fifteen entries from the tristate area were received. The entries were then juried for entry into the show. Sixty eight 2 dimensional works and 10 3 dimensional works were accepted and will be displayed at the Rising Sun Pendleton Art Center during the month of May.

 

Prizes will be awarded at 7pm in the gallery at the Art Center. Champagne and hor d’ourves will be served.  The public is invited to attend this free event.

 

Judge for the competition is Jamie Markle. He is the Publisher for North Light Books, and imprint of F & W Publications. He collaborates closely with North Light’s sister publications The Artist Magazine, Watercolor Artist, And the Pastel Journal, as well as at online properties Wet Canvas! and Artistnetwork TV. He is the co-editor of The Ultimate Guide to Painting From Photographs and Pure Color: the Best of Pastel.
