In 1844-45, the Ohio County Court House was built entirely by donations; Col. Abel C. Pepper donated the land on which it was constructed. The Ohio County Courthouse is the oldest operating courthouse in Indiana. It is Classical in style and has Doric details in the front façade.

It may come as a surprise that although small in size Ohio County is rich in history. Much of the wonderful history can be found in the museum, which is listed on the register of historic places. Originally the complex of buildings housed the Clore Plow Works beginning in 1850 and ending in 1910. Plows and other farming implements manufactured by the factory are on exhibit.

Designated as a National Scenic Byway in 1996, the Ohio River Scenic Byway is the link that ties together the history of Southern Indiana. At times hugging the river itself, the route twists and turns its way past cypress swamps, scenic overlooks, archaeological sites, stately mansions, riverboat casinos, and caverns. The route offers a pleasant escape from suburban concerns as it passes villages, well-kept barns, vineyards, and orchards.

Rising Sun Pendleton Art Center located in the heart of historic downtown Rising Sun. Pendleton features the main gallery, housing a variety of ever changing exhibits.The Pendleton Art Center has a complex of artist studios working in a wide variety of mediums and styles. The “First Weekend” of each month is in celebration for new exhibits and is hosted by open studios and continues through the weekend.
